The Exquisite Garden Project

"if you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea..."

Antoine de Saint-Exupery, from the Little Prince

The Campovida Exquisite Gardener's project, in beautiful Hopland, CA., was the first time we decided to tackle a project using only the materials scavenged onsite, sort of a risky move, but the site being a ranch, there was a bunch of great junk laying around. The Gardeners had a great time at Campovida (check out their website), creating during the day, and in the evening, playing bocce ball, cooking great food, and okay, sluggin' down a little of the amazing Campovida Wine. We did bring a few choice items from the Gardener's treasure trove, but mainly it was a blast to scout around and figure out how to make something artful out of whatever we found. We decided to scatter the sculptures throughout the amazing organic garden area, and two years later, the works are all still looking good, except the floating sculpture which must have sunk in the lake. It is amazing how junk rearranged takes on a new life! Guess Marcel Duchamp had somethin' going after all.
